Sorry its been so long

we have been super busy Audrianna continued to be sick for awhile first week it was a seizure that turned into vomiting and then a fever the next day the 2nd week she had a stomach bug and fever then the third and fourth week a nasty cold that she developed diarreah at the end of we went through 40 diapers in two days so since I worry alot about Audrianna I made yet another trip to her pediatricians office I was worried about the diarreah, that she wasnt drinking or eatting much and overall that shes been getting sick so much lately. Well they felt she amy have become dehydrated or was gonna start so the pediatrician we saw hers was on vacation or whatever told the nurse only try to get the iv in one time, They tried they couldnt get it in so we were sent to the ER where a few hrs later and a few poopy diapers later we were admitted they did a chest xray which came back fine, they tested her rotovirus, and a few other bacaterial and viral infections all came back negative, then they focused on that she had been 23lbs back in december when we were there even before that shes been the same weight for awhile now but she had lost weight with the diarreah and loss of appetite not good thing since she already barely eats so the GI dr discussed a Gtube possibility and that we would follow up in his office. Till then the nurses were to order her foods high in calories and try to feed her to see hwo much she was taking in each feeding she didnt endup eatting much for them either. Well anways we were discharged on wednesday and we had Audriannas 3rd birthday party saturday we woudl have had it teh saturday before but she was in the hospita she ended up beoing admitted the day before her third birthday. Yesterday we had our follow up with the GI dr and he scheduled her for a upper endoscopy and a impedance ph probe next friday both small procedures the Upper endoscopy enables the physician to look inside the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (first part of the small intestine). The procedure might be used to discover the reason for swallowing difficulties, nausea, vomiting, reflux, bleeding, indigestion, abdominal pain, or chest pain. Upper endoscopy is also called EGD, which stands for esophagogastroduodenoscopy (eh-SAH-fuh-goh-GAS-troh-doo-AH-duh-NAH-skuh-pee). And a Impedance Ph Probe is
An Ambulatory 24-hour pH probe study measures the acid that refluxes back up from the stomach. Any medications in use for reflux are usually stopped for at least 24 hours before the test is scheduled to begin, and in some cases up to 5 days before.

A very thin tube, thinner than a feeding tube is inserted up through the nostril, and then down the throat and esophagus until it reaches just above the stomach (similar to an NG tube). It has a very small probe at the end, that will register any acids that are refluxed from the stomach.

An x-ray is taken to make sure that the probe has been positioned correctly. The other end of the thin tube is attached to a small computer (small black box) for 12 or 24 hours. During this period you are given a diary sheet to complete, on which you should record the time of each activity that takes place, basically a running history.

This means for example -
14-35hrs - vomited whole bottle - upright
14-36hrs - crying - upright
14-45hrs - sleeping - flat

The position of you or your infant is important. Upright means at an angle of 45 degrees or more, flat means at an angle less than 45 degrees. You are usually free to move around during the test. Some hospitals may allow you to go home and come back once the test is complete, to hand back the small black box and have the tube removed. Other hospitals prefer you remain resident for the full duration of the test.

When the 12 or 24hrs are over, they tally up the readings on the computer, along with the history you have written. By studying all the data from probe, against the diary sheet the consultant can then determine the severity of your reflux.

She will be getting Anesthesia and for fear of aude pulling out the ph probe we are staying overnite. The GI dr also prescribed Audrianna an antihistamine for her allergies but also cause it will increase her appetite they are hoping that will work if it doesnt shes getting a gtube. its crazy the things shes gone through in 3 years of life. and yes as u can guess she didnt get to start preschool yet she was suppossed to start on her birthday.
